Why the tendency in children & youth is growing to join the ranks of criminals – drug, killings, robberies, and lately but most importantly, the terrorism? The answer is: i) the economic imbalance, social injustice and lack of career growth opportunities; and ii) no quality education and sports infrastructure at the suburban and rural level for youth to spend their after school time and evenings in constructive activities. These youth are at high risk and could easily be engaged by wrong folks for use in unscrupulous activities.  YRC believes there is immediate need to shield youth and involve them in constructive after school social, education and sports activities.  United States and the international community is spending trillions of dollars on the war around the world particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan and African countries.  But war is NOT the answer alone, it rather increases the population of deprived youth and hence reinforce the evil forces.  The destruction of over 3000 schools in the KPK province of Pakistan only is instrumental to produce youth are more susceptible to being swayed to work for those promoting unscrupulous agendas .  The real answer and the lasting solution is to remove the root causes – improve the socio-economic conditions and engage the youths in constructive activities – school for education and reinforce it by informal education interventions through setting up libraries network and playgrounds- change the violence to good governance.

YRC Pilot Project: YRC plans to set up small community libraries in collaboration with the administration of existing primary and middle schools in the suburban and rural areas KPK province, the tribal areas in Pakistan and southeastern provinces in Afghanistan.  The local schools provide space and YRC provides library equipment and accessories – computers, printer, furniture, computer network, books and magazines etc.   Once the library becomes functional, YRC hands it over to the school for the use of youth to spend the after school time in reading, writing and use the computers for homework and research activities.  The successful out-come will then be replicated elsewhere.
